STEM JIJ OOK? ik dacht al dat ik het rook.

MF-finderskeepersMF-1-original

A while ago I had an idea to get rid of all the second hand frames I have in my studio-at-home, combining it with “putting my work out there” off the screen.
The idea was to make little illustrations of whatever comes to mind (read: original artwork, not tweaked in the computer), frame it, and leave it somewhere in the streets of Rotterdam for someone to find under the name (and hashtag) Finders Keepers MF.
Or….some extra filling for the community garbage cans….(fingers crossed it won’t be the last. )

Yesterday, when having a shower (ideas pop up in showers, you know that), I thought of my somewhat “election stress” for the upcoming Dutch election Wednesday the 15th of March….and for whatever reason I thought of a song a teacher of mine sung when we had to walk back for thousands of hours (1h or so) to our dorms after a long day during our exchange in Germany (I was 14 years old).

She sang (with a conspiracy voice to each of us…):

Zweet jij ook?
Ik dacht al dat ik het rook.
Ik vraag je heel vertrouwelijk
Zweet jij ook?

(and we had to shout back…of course we did…):
JA, IK ZWEET!
VAN M’N OKSELS TOT M’N REET!
IK ZEG JE HEEL VERTROUWELIJK
JA, IK ZWEET!

Free translation (unfortunately not rhyme):
Do you sweat?
I already thought I’d smell it
I’m asking you very confidentially
Do you sweat?

YES, I SWEAT!
FROM MY ARM PITS TO MY ASS!
I TELL YOU VERY CONFIDENTIALLY
YES I SWEAT!

Well, this has always stayed with me as you can imagine, and just pops up in my head from time to time. This time, in the shower, I somehow made it into this:

Stem jij ook?
Ik dacht al dat ik het rook.
etc.

Free translation:
Do you vote?
I already thought I’d smell it.
etc.

The song kept in my head, I thought of the framed illustration idea again, I thought of March 15, and the combination was made.

Hopefully if someone finds it and decides to keep it and unwrap they will share it on social media with  #finderskeepersMF @madamefourmilion. Won’t that be cool? Free gift versus free advertisement. I could only dream….

Luckily there was no one paying attention to me at 8 a.m. this morning…

Savoy Room 2.0 continues…

Can’t believe I haven’t shared this yet on this blog.

My cousins jazz band Savoy Room is working on its second album for a little while now.
Because it has been a few years ago they made their first, they wanted a new identity, slightly more mature and more meaningful.

I developed a new logo style and some imagery for their communication and for their future album cover. But more about that later…

Until their new single is released they will use this profile picture and banner on their social media.

flashback friday #7

mf-fbf-7-berlin-2011

There was so much cool pics to choose from when while browsing through my Berlin 2011 photos, so I be coming back to this album again, for another Flashback Friday.

Time has gone by so quick! This is already the second lp of MDV’s Voodoo Gold Records (VG002). The back of the label is a mosaic, built up from different hand painted and illustrated textures.

The mosaic itself and the colours are later added digitally.
If you’re interested in the music you can listen it here, and buy it over here at Clone.
