Object Rotterdam 2014

I hereby would like to share the favorites of Object Rotterdam, a part of Festival Art Rotterdam and held in De Rotterdam (a brilliant architectural phenomenon of 150 meters high, designed by Rem Koolhaas). Visitors where given the opportunity to sneak a peak into a penthouse at the 44th floor and some apartments on the 30th floor where a part of the expo also took place. Luckily the weather was good so that I could wave at my apartment across the water (the red with white building somewhere in the middle of the second picture).

Like in the previous post I didn’t succeed in getting the names of all the designers and artists. But!…(that should not spoil the fun……of sharing…..yes.).

I don’t know what it was, but it looked like a fancy sauna with a monster inside, who later turned into a woman without the monster suit.

A big fat brain attached to a car. Funny to see, because I’m busy producing a giant (extern) brain myself(!).

And when there’s a ‘looking down’ there’s also a ‘looking up’ picture. Thank you Rem Koolhaas.

RAW Art Fair Rotterdam 2014

Yesterday I’ve been to the RAW Art Fair in the Cruise Terminal in Rotterdam. Unlike last year I decided to put my favourites directly on the blog, because afterwards it was too much of a search to connect the right artist to the right work. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to remember or find all the names this time, but that should not spoil the fun of radomly sharing these great works with you:

ONDERZEEBOOTLOODS 2013

Today I went to Boijmans’ Onderzeebootloods, XXXL Painting.
The submarine wharf is situated at Heijplaat (15 minutes by boat from Rotterdam) and contains XXXL work by artists Jim Shaw (USA), Chris Martin (USA) and Klaas Kloosterboer (NL). The wharf itself is very nice to walk through, because it still looks the same (I think) as it did from the establishment in 1937 until the 1980s when it went bankrubt.

Jim Shaw
Jim Shaw (1952), my favorite artist of the day. He uses old theater backdrops for his art work. You can recognize a lot of Surrealism and Pop Art influence.

Klaas KloosterboerKlaas Kloosterboer (1959). He makes a lot of abstract paintings which he constructs and deconstructs (making holes in it, fumble it, etc. and sometimes creates bigger than life size suits from it. (cool!)
